Hatshepsut and donkeys

Then we went to Hatshepsut's temple, nowIi am sure you all know the story of Hatshepsut but I will tell you anyway. So she married the king and they only had baby girls, and then he died. So, she became king, then she realized her step son wanted to become king. So she threw him in jail for 20 years! Hatshepsut was the first woman ruler who was very successful, when she died the step son got out of jail. He came to her temple and scratched of every single face of her, he wanted revenge! It is very sad to go there and see all of her faces chizled of, but also very exciting to be there. Hatshepsut is my personal favourite ruler because she did everything in her power to rule because she knew she could be successful! Hatshepsut dressed exactly like a man with the false beard, crown, and everything! It was very beautiful there and everything I had hoped for! We also went to the Habu temple which had color and carvings so deep I could stick my hand through! Then, we went for a donkey ride, which was very scary and nothing like a camel ride! My donkey was hungry so he kept stopping and eating, and we were on the busiest streets almost getting run over by cars. And my mom's and my donkeys went out of control and went speeding off, all I can say is, donkeys are very competative!

  1. Hi again, Roxy. Now we are writing to you from SECOND period! Zoe D. wants to know what happened at the END of your "donkey race"! Tavi wants you to know we are glad you are feeling better now. Joe would really like a picture of Tut's mask but we remembered you weren't allowed to take a picture of that. Isaiah wonders what Egyptian pancakes taste like. Have you had any yet? Seamus wonders if there is Egyptian pizza. Fiona will be interested to hear any more of Hatshepsut's history that you can share with us. Jareth wonders if there is Egyptian pie. Tavi wonders if you have seen lots of tourists who are not Egyptian. Fiona wonders how far off the ground you are when you ride a camel.

  2. Roxy, This is Julia, your Aunt Sheila's pal down in Pt Reyes, just writing to tell you how v much I'm enjoying your trip -- next best to being there myself. It's one thing to read about Egypt in a book but entirely another to hear about it from somebody who's going to all the places you'd like to go and doing all the things you'd like to do! I feel grateful, every post I read, that you're taking the time to keep us all up to day w your comings and goings -- and also that you're such a good writer! Keep having fun!!! And my gosh, that donkey ride, you guys are brave!!!!
    PS Hi to your Mom -- I met her just once when Sheila brought me over Julia Bartlett.

  3. Hello Annie and Rox;

    Thanks for your phone message yesterday at M&Ds. We were very happy to hear you were ok, although word of the bombing had not reached us yet. Scary.

    Lily is home now and doing fine. She is starting to miss you both very much but we looked at pictures and told stories last night in bed before she went to sleep. School will be a good distraction for her until you get back.

    It is pouring here and blowing so hard we all expect to lose power any minute. It's a great time to be on vacation. Stay safe and get better soon. We miss you.

    Sheila
    p.s. Mom can't seem to post a message from her computer but she loves the blog and sends along her love.
    p.s.s. I've been having a darn hard time posting lately-may be a problem with the blog site. Just wanted you to know as others may be having trouble too.
